Social Media figure, Emma Chamberlain, has teamed up with Bixby Roasting Co and Steeped Coffee to launch her own coffee company, Chamberlain Coffee.

Chamberlain Coffee is only available in single-serve Chamberlain Steeped Coffee Bags, brewed similar to tea, which are made using compostable and renewable materials, making every cup eco-friendly. Chamberlain said: “I’ve never had an efficient way to bring coffee around with me while traveling or an efficient way to make coffee at home that was actually really really good.”

When searching for the perfect solution, Emma approached Los Angeles based Bixby Roasting Co, to collaborate on a unique roast profile in innovative new packaging. Chamberlain’s goal was to simply share a single serving of freshly roasted specialty coffee that is delicious, easy, and guilt-free with her fans. She wanted no machines, pods, or extra plastic packaging.

Emma and Bixby turned to Santa Cruz-based startup Steeped Coffee and its proprietary brewing method to deliver a simple consistent barista-approved cup. Every single-serving Steeped Coffee Bag is crafted for quality, convenience, and sustainability.

“My goal with this was to give everyone a way to make coffee easily that actually tastes good,” says Emma. “I am super excited that I was able to create this product.”

Each Chamberlain Steeped Coffee Bag is pre-ground, pre-dosed, and nitro-sealed for freshness using a blend of 100% specialty, sustainably grown coffees from Colombia, Guatemala, and Nicaragua that are hand-roasted in small batches at Bixby’s L.A. headquarters. The result is a rich and smooth cup with hints of chocolate and cherry.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this collaboration,” says Bixby founder and CEO, Remington Hotchkis. “Partnering with the innovative team at Steeped producing the perfect single-serve coffee and someone as dynamic and forward-thinking as Emma is a dream come true.”

About Emma Chamberlain

Emma began creating content on YouTube last year and has gained over 8.5 million subscribers and 950 million views to date. Time Magazine included Chamberlain in their 2019 list of The 25 Most Influential People on the Internet as well as the Time Magazine 100 Next List. The New York Times wrote “Emma Chamberlain, 18, is the funniest person on YouTube,” W Magazine wrote that she is “the most interesting girl on YouTube.”

McDonald will report to Mann. “I am excited to welcome Jill to the Costa family,” Mann said. “Her track record, depth of international experience and excitement about joining our business makes her an ideal leader to build on the great work of Dominic and the rest of the Costa team.”

Most recently, McDonald was managing director of clothing and home for Marks & Spencer. Prior to that, she held senior roles at Halfords, McDonald’s Corp and British Airways.

“I have long been a fan of Costa and have watched the company grow in the UK and far beyond,” McDonald said. “I look forward to joining the Costa leadership team and building on the great foundation and growth potential in the business.”

“We love what we do –– introducing people to dynamic coffees at our coffee bar, sharing our newest coffees with our Scuba Club and Yacht Club subscribers and training our wholesale partners’ staffs to prepare excellent coffee beverages. We’re honored to be a part of the continued escalation of the coffee craft in Atlanta, and we’re excited to celebrate how wonderful the last two years have been while at Armour Yards.”

California-based Bellwether Coffee, a producer of coffee roasting equipment, has raised $40 million to invest in development of the company which makes in-store roasting emissions-free and easily accessible.

In contrast to traditional coffee roasters, which are expensive and difficult to permit and install, often requiring natural gas lines and complicated venting systems, Bellwether’s electric roaster is simple to operate and can be placed in any location, providing the immediate benefits of freshly roasted coffee at a lower cost.

The internet-connected Bellwether Roaster enables customers to use award-winning roast profiles (or create their own) exactly as intended, no matter the operator, location or environment. Additionally, the platform provides access to a curated marketplace of green coffee from farms around the world, inventory management tools, and data analytics from its connected software.

Since officially launching its electric roaster domestically last year, Bellwether Coffee has seen significant demand from coffee retailers, cafes, local grocers and national chains, and on average is installing a roaster per day across the US.

“We are thrilled to be working closely with DBL, Lyndon and Peter Rive to help accelerate our already rapid growth,” said Bellwether’s CEO, Nathan Gilliland. “We expect in-store roasting at cafes and grocery locations to become the rule, not the exception. We are proud that the Bellwether Roaster has become the most consistent and controllable commercial coffee roaster available.”

In addition to meeting global demand for its roaster, Bellwether is also concentrating its efforts on two main areas of social impact: increasing incomes for coffee farmers and eliminating roast processes that are harmful to the planet.

Coffee has long been tied to having an outsized carbon footprint. The electric Bellwether Roaster reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 90% versus traditional gas-powered alternatives. Instead of green, unroasted coffee being shipped to centralised coffee roasting facilities and then shipped to retailers, Bellwether enables its customers to roast on-site—no gas lines or ventilation required. The result is a fresher, higher-value coffee product for customers, increased profit for coffee retailers, a reduced impact on the planet, and more money going to those at the beginning of the coffee supply chain—farmers.

“DBL is pleased to work with Bellwether Coffee to accelerate the reduction of coffee’s carbon footprint and drive positive social impact across the supply chain, all while offering consumers a higher quality coffee experience,” said Nancy Pfund, founder and managing partner of DBL Partners.

“Whether it is cars or coffee, the move to electricity away from fossil fuels whets consumers’ appetite for a planet-friendly, premium product, creating large, high-growth markets in the process.” It was also announced today that Nancy Pfund will join Bellwether’s board of directors.

“Bellwether completely changes how coffee is roasted and distributed,” said Lyndon Rive, who will also join Bellwether’s board of directors. “We are thrilled to co-lead this round to help Bellwether’s outstanding team meet its rapid growth in global demand.”

The Series B round was led by DBL Partners and brothers Lyndon and Peter Rive. Additional participating investors include FusionX, Congruent Ventures, Coffee Bell, Tandem Capital, Spindrift Equities, XN Ventures, Balius Partners and Hardware Club.

The Bellwether Roaster is available to business owners through lease and purchase options. For more information, please visit: www.bellwethercoffee.com.

Co-Chairmen of Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, Paul Higgins Jr. and Michael Higgins, have been appointed Members of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honor.

The Order was established in 1967 as a fellowship that recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Membership is awarded to those who exemplify the order’s Latin motto, “desiderantes meliorem patriam,” which means “they desire a better country.” In the past 50 years, only 7,000 people have been invested into the Order.

In announcing the Higgins brothers’ appointment to the Order, Governor General Julie Payette’s office stated: “Michael and Paul Higgins are renowned leaders and innovators in the food industry. Third generation co-chairmen of Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, the brothers have expanded the business nine fold, distributing their products to every major retail grocery chain in North America. Respectful of the impacts of the industry on the environment, they launched a non-profit program, “Water Wise Coffee”. Discreet philanthropists, they have supported various community and national initiatives, both personally and through their company, for several decades.”

In learning of their appointment to the Order of Canada, Paul Higgins Jr. said: “I am shocked, thrilled, humbled and overwhelmed to be recognized by our great country and to join the ranks of a group of truly great contributors to Canada.”

Michael Higgins added: “This is an amazing honour to be given the Order of Canada and it is humbling to receive one of the highest awards in this great country that we love so much.”

Mother Parkers is a Canadian family-owned company and one of North America’s largest manufacturers and distributors of coffee and tea products. Paul and Michael Higgins are the third generation of the Higgins family to lead the business, which has grown from a small wholesale grocery distributor in Toronto in 1912 to a global industry leader that employees over 1,000 people in North America and supplies some of the world’s largest retailers, restaurants and brand owners. The brothers took over from their father as co-CEOs in 1993 and steered the business through periods of phenomenal growth, innovation and transformation. Earlier this year, they transitioned to the roles of co-chairmen of the Mother Parkers board of directors.

Starbucks’ revenue rose in its first quarter, beating Wall Street estimates.

The company’s total revenue for its 13-week fiscal first quarter ending December 30, 2018, was $.6.63bn, up from the predicted $6.49bn. Earnings per share was $0.61, a decrease from $0.65 in 2018. Net income fell from $2.25 billion to $760.6 million.

Kevin Johnson, Starbucks president and ceo said: “Starbucks delivered solid operating results in the first quarter, demonstrating continued momentum in our business, as we drive our growth-at-scale agenda with focus and discipline. We are particularly pleased with the sequential improvement in quarterly comparable store transactions in the US, underpinned by our digital initiatives and improved execution of our in-store experience. With this solid start to the fiscal year, we are on track to deliver on our full-year commitments.”

“Comprehensive efforts to streamline our business have allowed us to focus on three key strategic initiatives that position Starbucks for long-term success: accelerating growth in our targeted markets of the US and China, expanding the global reach of the Starbucks brand through our Global Coffee Alliance with Nestlé, and increasing shareholder returns. Combined with our efforts to build and amplify the Starbucks brand, we expect these initiatives will position the company to drive predictable, sustainable growth and shareholder returns for years to come,” concluded Johnson.

Looking to Q2, revenue is expected to increase again following Starbucks’ new partnership with delivery service, Uber Eats. Starbucks Delivers currently operates in Miami and San Diego, soon rolling out to Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, DC. Later in the year, the company hopes to expand Starbucks Delivers to the UK, beginning with London.
