Starbucks’ CEO, Kevin Johnson, has announced that the company’s goal is to open 90% of its US stores by early June 2020.
Beginning Monday 4 May, more Starbucks stores will be opening in co-operation with local health authorities and local governments. This, Starbucks has said, will be determined on a store-by-store basis as the company continues to prioritise the health and wellbeing of customers and employees.
Below are some of the measures the company is taking in order to ensure employee and customer safety:
- Starbucks employees will now have their temperatures taken when they start their shift, as well as receive new training on updated cleaning and safety policies.
- Customers will be able to order and pay ahead of time using the Starbucks App and pick up their order at the door or in the drive-thru, meaning that they will not have to enter the store.
- Only select stores will reopen their interior to the public and allow customers to place orders with a cashier. In these stores, Starbucks will be removing or cordoning off seating and stores will also feature social distancing markers. A “grab and go” service will be in place so customers can place an order in the cafe and then take it to go.
- Drive-thrus remain open to serve customers and additional delivery locations are now available through Starbucks Delivers via Uber Eats.
