Starbucks has a new coffee flavour for the fall: Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte. Inspired by the popular flavour and aroma of homemade pecan pie, the Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte features soft and balanced Starbucks Blonde Espresso that perfectly complements creamy oatmilk, nutty flavours of pecan, rich brown buttery notes and holiday baking spices, finished off with a pecan crunch topping. Available hot and iced (with nondairy Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam), in US stores beginning 19 September for a limited time while supplies last. 

Customers can also add a pecan twist to their favourite beverage by customising it with Starbucks new Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam, infused with pecan syrup. Available as dairy or nondairy.  

Fall is in the Air 

With fall in the air, Starbucks and Delta Air Lines are surprising travelers with an early taste of the new Iced Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte this Wednesday, 18 September. Delta travelers will be among the first to taste the new latte at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and LaGuardia Airport before it becomes available at US Starbucks stores the following day.

While for many in the northern hemisphere, it still feels like we are still in the throws of summer, foodservice brands are looking ahead to the upcoming autumn season, and of course with autumn comes the ever-popular pumpkin spice. Brands are releasing their seasonal autumn menus, left right and centre, so Tea & Coffee Trade Journal has compiled the launches below.

 

Starbucks

The autumnal menu has returned to Starbucks stores in the US. Since its debut in 2003 the Pumpkin Spice Latte continues to be Starbucks most popular seasonal beverage. Made with real pumpkin, the beverage combines Starbucks Signature Espresso and steamed milk with the flavour combination of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices, the beverage is available hot, iced or blended.

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew also returns to the menu. Made with Starbucks Cold Brew sweetened with vanilla syrup, topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and a pumpkin spice topping.

The Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai returns, following its official introduction to Starbucks fall menu last year. Inspired by customer and barista customisations, this beverage pairs a rich blend of spiced chai with pumpkin cream cold foam and a pumpkin spice topping.

Also originating as a popular customer customisation, the new Iced Apple Crisp Nondairy Cream Chai features spice flavours of chai combined with oatmilk and topped with nondairy apple crisp cold foam.

Another return is the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato, featuring flavours of apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar combined with espresso poured over oatmilk, and topped with a spiced apple drizzle.  Available hot and iced.

The Starbucks Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso is a combination of Starbucks Blonde Espresso with notes of apple, cinnamon and brown sugar, shaken together and topped with oatmilk.

Customers can also find two additional fall beverages exclusively in the Starbucks app. The Iced Caramel Apple Cream Latte and the Iced Honey Apple Almondmilk Flat White.

Starbucks Reserve Roasteries and stores in Seattle, Chicago and New York City will also introduce new and returning Pumpkin Spice beverages, such as the new Starbucks Reserve Pumpkin Spice Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew, Pumpkin Spice Affogato, and Pumpkin Spice Chai Martini, and the return of Starbucks Reserve Pumpkin Spice Latte.

 

Dunn Brothers Coffee

Dunn Brothers Coffee, the nearly 40-year-old Minneapolis-based brand has announced its ‘Pumpkin Palooza,’ the brand’s celebration of autumn, featuring a variety of pumpkin-inspired beverages and treats.

The focus of the promotion is “BYOPP” (Build Your Own Pumpkin Patch), giving guests the opportunity to select any four medium drinks for USD $25. The brands Pumpkin Pie Latte returns, as well as new beverages like the Pumpkin Oat Chai, Nitro Pumpkin Pie Iced Nirvana, and Pumpkin Dunn Dirty—a twist on the brand’s popular Dirty Soda line.

In addition to Pumpkin Palooza’s beverages, the brand is also introducing two limited-time bakery items: the Pumpkin Muffin and the Pumpkin Scone. This lineup ensures that everyone who is fond of pumpkin flavors finds something to savor during this seasonal celebration.

The brand is also offering App Exclusives for Pumpkin Palooza, such as 2x points on all pumpkin products throughout the promotional window.

 

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme has relaunched its Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut for the 2024 autumn season in the US.

The seasonal products are available for a limited time at participating shops across the country.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte can be served hot, iced or frozen. Each latte is topped with whipped cream and sprinkles with pumpkin spice seasoning.

Customers can place orders in-store or choose pickup and delivery through the Krispy Kreme app and website.

Krispy Kreme global chief brand officer, Dave Skena, said: “It’s August and we’re all ready for pumpkin spice, somehow. So, we’re bringing back the classics.”

 

Peet’s Coffee

Headlining the seasonal menu is the new Fiery Mocha, and the cozy new Spiced Maple Cold Brew Oat Latte, plus the return of the iconic Pumpkin Latte.

Fall beverage lineup:

Fiery Mocha: A fusion of chocolate and warming spices, available hot or iced.

Spiced Maple Cold Brew Oat Latte: A combination of maple and cinnamon with your coffee.

Pumpkin Latte: Peet’s Espresso Forte and steamed milk blend with the flavours of pumpkin pie, topped with a sprinkle of baking spices, available hot or iced and as a plant-based beverage by customising with a non-dairy milk.

Pumpkin Spice Latte: Available hot, iced, or frozen, combines Ellianos’ premium espresso with the flavors of pumpkin and aromatic spices.

Cold Brew w/Pumpkin Cold Foam (NEW): Featuring Ellianos’ cold brew topped with a layer of pumpkin-infused cold foam.

Paris Baguette

Neighbourhood bakery-café, Paris Baguette, has unveiled its limited-edition fall menu.

An icon of the fall season, the highly anticipated return of pumpkin is finally here, including the Pumpkin Spiced Latte, espresso with pumpkin puree and steamed milk of choice, dusted with cinnamon. This is served up alongside the brand’s range of seasonal sweet and savoury baked treats.

This fall, as part of a limited-time partnership with leading plant-based milk brand Califia Farms, Paris Baguette is unveiling a Maple Oatmilk Latte, espresso flavoured with maple syrup and Califia Farms oatmilk available hot or iced. Also available as Maple Sweet Cream Cold Brew, cold brew flavored with maple syrup and topped with sweet cream.

The new fall menu will be available nationwide at Paris Baguette locations from 4 September through 2 December.

As summer nears, Dunkin’ is introducing its Kiwi Watermelon Dunkin’ Refresher, alongside seven other summer menu items, including a Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee and Vanilla Frosted Donut Signature Latte.

Dunkin’s pumpkin line-up has returned for the 2023 autumn season. Guests can now purchase the Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte, Nutty Pumpkin Coffee and Pumpkin bakery line-up.

The Grinch is always trying ruin Christmas, and this year it seems he is trying to steal the fun from the festive seasonal drinks on coffeehouse menus! A new study from Kent Express has revealed the ‘most sugary’ holiday drinks, one of which contains double the recommended daily allowance.

Starbucks, McDonald’s, Caffè Nero, Costa Coffee and Pret a Manger all have holiday drink menus, but some chains’ options contain double the sugar content of others. The findings, collated and analysed by the United Kingdom’s leading mail-order dental supplier, Kent Express, found that McDonald’s Hot Chocolate Deluxe has the lowest number of calories at 201 and 28 grams of sugar (and 6.5g fat) while Costa Coffee’s Black Forest Hot Chocolate & Cream, has 420 calories and 31.3 grams of sugar.

Caffè Nero’s Mint Choc Chip Hot Chocolate tops the leaderboard with the highest number of calories – 468 and sugar content, 63.5 grams – the equivalent of 15 sugar cubes. To burn off this calorific hot drink, Kent Express reports that a consumer would need to run for over 40 minutes on average or walk for 1.5 hours.

According to the NHS, more than 22.5g of total sugars per 100g is considered high and 18 out of the 20 drinks include 22.5g of sugar and over, with the Caffè Nero Mint Choc Chip Hot Chocolate three times over this value.

Many coffee chains have released several new additions to their menus this year that take consumers’ growing desire to be healthier into consideration. So, for those consumers who ‘fancy a festive drink’ but are conscious of the sugar, the Costa Gingerbread Latte and Cream has the lowest amount of sugar (14g), while the McDonald’s Hot Chocolate Deluxe and Caffè Nero’s Salted Caramel Latte have the lowest number of calories.

Starbucks has launched the most extensive drinks menu, with eight options in total, including lattes, hot chocolates and frappuccinos, while McDonald’s has the fewest drinks options with a total of two.

Chris Moffatt, dental expert at Kent Express, said, “Everyone looks forward to letting their hair down at Christmas, but it’s good to make informed choices about what we eat and drink. Around one in three adults in the UK have signs of tooth decay, which can lead to more serious health problems. Many dental practices close over the Christmas period, so it can be hard to get a dental appointment.” He added that when indulging in a sugary drink, try to have it with a meal, use a straw, and drink some water straight afterwards. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily and keeping up to date with your regular dental check-ups is also essential.”

Registered nutritionist Dr Kawther Hashem, campaign lead at Action on Sugar, noted that sugar not only lacks nutritional benefits, but eating (or drinking) too much of it leads to weight gain and raises the risk of type 2 diabetes. “Sugar is also, without doubt, a huge factor in tooth decay. It is therefore shocking that so many coffee chains are still willfully putting their customers’ health at risk,” Hashem said, adding, “in our Festive Drinks Survey in December 2019, we found Caffè Nero’s Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (Grande), made with skimmed milk, contained nearly 15 teaspoons of sugar (59.6g) and 503 calories. An average person would have to do 90 minutes on the cross trainer to work this energy off!”

The holiday drinks are limited seasonal offerings so do not let the Grinch grab your merry this season, but perhaps consume those festive drinks in moderation or customize them with lower or non-fat milk, less pumps of the sugary syrup, light whipped cream and skip the toppings!

US-based Dunn Brothers Coffee has released its new Holiday Beyond Blend and is donating part of the proceeds to global humanitarian organisation Alight.

For every bag of the Holiday Beyond Blend sold, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Alight to support the vital work it does with more than 3.5 million refugees and migrants around the world.

Starbucks is ‘bringing on the merry’ with its return of holiday beverages this year.

Offerings include the handcrafted Peppermint, Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte and Toasted White Chocolate Mocha with rich espresso, steamed milk and festive flavours.

In terms of new additions, Starbucks is introducing the Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte for a non-dairy twist on a holiday cookie classic. This beverage is handcrafted with Starbucks Blonde Roast espresso and topped with red and green sprinkles.

Dutch Bros Coffee is introducing a new holiday trio featuring the Peppermint Bliss Cold Brew, Hazelnut Truffle Mocha & Glacier Peak Rebel at all of its more than 500 locations.

  • The Peppermint Bliss Cold Brew is a combination of Dutch Bros’ Cold Brew, white chocolate and peppermint flavor topped with Soft Top, a creamy, sweet topping, and Candy Cane Sprinks. It can be served with regular or nitro-infused cold brew.
  • The Hazelnut Truffle Mocha is a combination of Dutch Bros’ hand-pulled espresso, hazelnut flavour and chocolate milk topped with Soft Top and caramel drizzle.
  • The Glacier Peak Rebel is a mix of blue raspberry and vanilla flavour with Dutch Bros’ exclusive Blue Rebel energy drink topped with Soft Top and raw sugar sprinkles.

“The Peppermint Bliss Cold Brew takes your typical seasonal cold brew to the next level with the addition of white chocolate and candy cane sprinkles,” said Kayla Barton, director of research and development. “Customers can also elevate their holiday mocha with our hand-pulled espresso, hazelnut and signature Soft Top or stay energized for holiday fun with the Glacier Peak Rebel featuring our completely customizable Rebel energy drink. The master flavour formulators in Smith Teamaker’s Tea Lab have created what they believe to be the perfect holiday party starter. Released on SmithTea.com, Merry Maker’s Punch ($19.99) is a ruby red, all-natural spiced hibiscus tea blend with notes of cranberry, honey and spice. The punch was designed to be served straight or used as a mixer in myriad ways, making it the perfect addition to the holiday table, as a complement to any holiday feast, or on its own.  The light and giftable package contains 10 large plant-based sachets, which each brew up cups of festive goodness.

Winter Mimosa: Stir 3 parts Prosecco into 1 part punch concentrate, add a dash of simple syrup if desired.

Mulled Merry Maker’s Punch: Add equal parts punch concentrate and apple cider. Serve chilled, OR, bring to a simmer on the stovetop with cinnamon sticks and cranberries. Sweeten to taste and add Bourbon if desired. Garnish with orange wheels, fresh cranberries and rosemary.

Dunkin’ has teamed up with I Do Drive Thru, an international drive-up wedding service created to help people get married in a fun and safe way during the pandemic, to perform the ceremonies. Today (29 December), Dunkin’ is announcing the addition of Extra Charged Coffee to its menu, packing 20% more caffeine than Dunkin’s classic Hot and Iced Coffee. Dunkin is also introducing two new hot coffees, Dunkin’ Midnight and Explorer Batch, to kick off the New Year.

Available at participating Dunkin’ restaurants nationwide beginning 30 December, Extra Charged Coffee, served hot or iced, features green coffee extract that gives coffee drinkers an extra boost with 20% more caffeine. For an extra incentive to try the brand’s ‘buzziest’ new beverage, Dunkin’ will be offering Medium Extra Charged Coffee for $2 through 26 January.

“Since opening our doors more than 70 years ago, Dunkin’ has served a superior cup of coffee. Now, for the first time in our history, we’re offering the boldest and most diverse assortment of blends and customization options to fuel a new era of coffee at Dunkin’,” said Jill Nelson, vice president, Marketing & Culinary at Dunkin’. “From the darkest roast in our portfolio to the most caffeinated hot and iced coffee varieties, we are more committed than ever to keeping Americans running on Dunkin’ in 2021.”

For guests resolved to try bold new things in the New Year, Dunkin’ has brewed up two new hot coffee options, both available beginning 30 December:

Dunkin’ Midnight: New Dunkin’ Midnight is the brand’s darkest roast ever, featuring a rich, smooth, full-bodied flavour, rounded out with notes of decadent cocoa and an intensely dark finish. Dunkin’ Midnight joins the beloved Original Blend and Dunkin’ Decaf as a permanent addition to the brand’s coffee lineup.

Explorer Batch: The first coffee blend to be introduced as part of Dunkin’s new Limited Batch Series, Explorer Batch is a medium roast featuring dark berry notes, rounded out with a smoky finish. To craft its unique Explorer Batch, Dunkin’ sourced beans from four highly regarded coffee regions, including Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Sumatra. Explorer Batch will be available for a limited time, with new Limited Batch Series coffees to be introduced throughout the year.

In addition to Dunkin’s new offerings, coffee lovers can find the perfect Dunkin’ drink to match their mood, and perhaps, a little something extra. From 30 December through to 31 January, the My Dunkin’ Mood Quiz will ask questions that help gauge guests’ vibes, and then recommend one of the brand’s coffee beverages that can best fuel them through the day. Everyone who participates can enter to win one of five prizes, including Dunkin’ coffee for a year, $5,000 in cash, and more.
